When you deposit cryptocurrency to your NBX account from a self-hosted wallet, you will be asked to verify that the sending wallet belongs to you.
This is a legal requirement under the Travel Rule and is handled through a service called Notabene.
The process takes about one minute and only needs to be completed once per deposit.
Why is this required?
Financial regulations require crypto exchanges to know who is sending funds.
When you deposit from a self-hosted wallet (such as Ledger, Trezor, MetaMask, or other wallets you control yourself), NBX must verify that the wallet belongs to you.
Notabene handles this by asking you to sign a message — no funds are moved, it is purely a proof-of-ownership step.
When will I see this?
After your transaction is detected on the blockchain, your deposit will appear in Funds → Deposits with the status Incomplete.
This means that verification is required before the deposit can be credited.
What do I need to do?
To complete the verification, you will need to:
- Select who is sending the funds
- Select the wallet used for the transaction
- Sign a message using your wallet
Once completed, your deposit will be processed as normal.
Supported wallets
The Notabene verification supports most common wallets, including:
- Ledger
- Trezor
- MetaMask
- Rabby
- Phantom
- Mobile wallets (via WalletConnect)
- Other wallets via “Connect another device”
